The University of Bath has been named as one of the world’s top universities across 23 subject areas, according to the latest edition of one of the world’s most-consulted university rankings.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2020 - released today (Wednesday 4 March) by higher education analysts QS - highlights how the world’s best universities perform on topics such as academic reputation, employer reputation and impact.

The University of Bath performs best in sports-related subjects (11th), where both its academic reputation and employer reputation are highlighted.

In addition to sports, it also makes the top-50 for social policy and administration (46th) and is in the top-100 in four other areas: architecture and the built environment, business and management, education, and statistics and operational research (each ranked between 50-100 globally). This year’s rankings mark a jump in position for education and statistical and operational research.

Domestically, the QS Rankings place six subjects in the top-10 when comparing other UK universities. These include: Architecture & the Built Environment (10); Chemical Engineering (10); Mathematics (10); Business & Management Studies (10); Social Policy & Administration (9); and Sports-related subjects (4).

For citations per paper, Business and Management studies at Bath earned the highest score (94.9), which also received the highest score in QS’ H-Index (95.9), which is a measure of impact for published academic work.
