Bath scored an overall satisfaction rating of 87.2%, which is 3.5 points above the national average of 83.7% for UK universities.

Seven departments scored an overall satisfaction rating of 90% or above, including Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy and Pharmacology, Natural Sciences, Biology and Biochemistry, Architecture & Civil Engineering, and Health.

Bath’s Chemical, Process and Energy Engineering, Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering and Biology courses were rated among the best in the UK for student satisfaction in their respective fields.

Nine of Bath’s courses achieved 100% overall satisfaction while a further seven received satisfaction ratings of 95% or above. Students rated the teaching and learning opportunities at Bath particularly highly, with learning resources and academic support receiving significantly higher scores this year.

Professor Peter Lambert, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Learning & Teaching), commented:

I am delighted the National Student Survey has once again shown that our students appreciate the efforts we put into our learning and teaching. I’d like to offer my sincere thanks to our dedicated staff community who work tirelessly to ensure our students fulfil their potential at Bath and are well prepared for their future careers or studies. I would also like to thank staff who worked hard to encourage students to complete the NSS – once again higher participation rates have been reflected in higher satisfaction scores.

I’m glad that the work on improving our learning resources, especially in the Library and Student Commons, seems to be reflected in the feedback. It is also particularly pleasing to see that courses that are at the forefront of our curriculum transformation project, such as Sport & Exercise Science and Chemical Engineering, have received outstanding satisfaction scores. This shows that we are moving in the right direction.

These latest results reaffirm Bath as one of the UK’s top universities for student satisfaction, following a ranking of 6th in the UK in the Guardian University Guide 2020, and 5th for graduate employment in the Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019.

The results of the NSS provide valuable information for prospective students, and help universities, colleges and students’ unions to further improve the education and services they provide.
