The Bath Life Awards are prestigious awards which take place every year to highlight business success in the city. The 2024 finalists have been announced with the University of Bath strongly recognised in multiple categories.
This includes Ensilitech, a biotechnology spinout, shortlisted in both the New Business and Technology categories, and UK-HyRES, a government-backed research hub for hydrogen and alternative liquid fuels, shortlisted in the Sustainability category and also the Technology category.
EnsiliTech has developed cutting-edge vaccine technology through an innovative ensilication process, which removes the need for refrigeration when transporting and storing vaccines. The spinout was recently awarded a highly competitive government contract of £1.7 million to develop the world’s first thermally stable mRNA vaccine. More on this
On being shortlisted for the Bath Life Awards, Dr Asel Sartbaeva, CEO and Co-Founder of EnsiliTech from the Department of Chemistry at the University of Bath, says:
To be recognised in these categories at the Bath Life Awards is a huge encouragement as we bring this ground-breaking technology to market over the next few years, making vaccines that are safe and stable at all temperatures and saving many lives.
The University of Bath’s UK Hydrogen Research Hub (UK-HyRES) is driving forward the national effort in hydrogen research that is needed to help the government reach Net Zero emissions by 2050. Following an initial £11 million from the government’s EPSRC, total funding for UK-HyRES now exceeds £26 million with supporting investments from core university partners and industrial and civic collaborators.
The UK-HyRES lead, Professor Tim Mays from the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Bath, says:
We are delighted to be shortlisted in the Bath Life Awards which recognises a thriving, low carbon hydrogen sector as an essential part of the UK’s plans to build back better with a cleaner, greener energy system.
The ceremony for the Bath Life Awards 2024 is taking place at the Bath Pavilion on 29 February. See the full list of finalists
