Students and members of the public participating in German language courses offered by the Language Skills Team at the University of Bath have recently achieved success in the internationally recognised Goethe-Zertifikat A1–B2 examinations.
30 University of Bath students from a range of academic disciplines sat the German language exams on campus in early May. The results were excellent, and certificates were presented last week.
Preparing for the Goethe-Zertifikat B2 exam was a truly rewarding experience. The lessons and workshops helped me improve my German language skills and gain confidence in using the language. Passing the exam was a proud achievement, and the qualification will be valuable for my future studies and career in the social sciences. I highly recommend the course!

Participants have completed German language courses at the appropriate CEFR levels across both semesters of the 2025/26 academic year. In addition to their regular classes, candidates attended a series of five preparatory workshops specifically designed to support exam preparation.
The Goethe-Zertifikat, awarded by the Goethe-Institut, is a prestigious international qualification that certifies German language proficiency. It is widely recognised by academic institutions and employers worldwide.
The outstanding results achieved by participants in the Goethe-Zertifikat examinations reflect a remarkable commitment to developing both their language proficiency and employability skills. I commend their dedication and ambition in attaining such prestigious qualifications, which will undoubtedly open doors in an increasingly global context. My sincere thanks also go to the German team, who have once again provided exceptional support in enabling participants to excel in their language studies.

Learning a language at the University of Bath
The Language Skills Team offers courses in Arabic, French, German, Italian, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish, to all students, staff, and the wider community. All courses are designed to lead to internationally recognised language qualifications which enhance employability, strengthen placement and study abroad applications, and open doors to global career opportunities.
I found this programme very helpful in strengthening my language skills and earning a certificate. Having evidence of my language learning journey could also support my placement next year, especially in a German-speaking country. In addition, the programme was well structured for both practice and building confidence in speaking a foreign language. Overall, I feel that I made significant progress and am very satisfied with my results.
