The University welcomes Global Chair Professor Konstantina Nikita back to Bath for her second in-person visit from 14th -17th May 2023, following her first visit in November 2022. A pioneer in cross-disciplinary research in Engineering and Medicine, we're looking forward to once again welcoming Professor Nikita as she continues her in-person activities as a 2022/2023 Global Chair. Professor Nikita is being hosted by Dr Despina Moschou in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering.
Professor Nikita trained as both a physician and an engineer and works to adapt technologies developed in the antennas and computer industry for healthcare innovation. She is a Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The National Technical University of Athens, where she is also the Founder and Director of the Biomedical Simulations and Imaging Lab and Director of the Mobile Radiocommunications Lab.
The research areas of digital and health are priorities at Bath and the collaboration with Professor Nikita will greatly benefit several proposed research projects, including AI-assisted multisensory inputs for augmenting physical performance, subcutaneous implantable sensing device technology and artificial retinal devices for augmented human vision.
Activities at Bath
So far during her time as a Global Chair, Professor Nikita has undertaken the following activities:
Conducted several workshops, including one on implantable devices and another on AI for healthcare applications
Held tutorials for academics and researchers on ERC and EU grant applications
Gave a Global Chair public lecture in November 2022 entitled 'Leveraging AI to support person-centered health and wellness'
During Professor Nikita's second visit, she will be meeting with the IRO and Faculty of Engineering academics and researchers to build on the initial collaborations which took place in November 2022 and the IRO looks forward to discussing next steps for the partnership moving forward.
