The survey completed by 76 percent of Bath’s final year undergraduates sees the University exceed sector averages across six out of seven measured survey themes:
Teaching on my course: 88.4 vs benchmark 85.2
Learning opportunities: 84.3 vs benchmark 82.1
Assessment and feedback: 72.6 vs benchmark 75.1
Academic support: 90.5 vs benchmark 86.4
Organisation and management: 85.5 vs benchmark 78.7
Learning resources: 90.8 vs benchmark 88
Student voice: 77.6 vs benchmark 74.2
Benchmarks are published by the Office for Students (OfS), who use them to make meaningful comparisons between higher education providers. They are weighted sector averages which are adjusted to account for differences in student and course characteristics. A score of 2.5 percentage points above the benchmark figure is considered ‘Outstanding’ by OFS.
Compared to 2023, Bath's score improved considerably for the Student voice theme, which measures opportunities to provide feedback. A number of efforts have been undertaken to improve this important area, including enhanced partnership with the Students’ Union with a focus on delivering their Top 10 SU priorities and promoting Online Unit Evaluations.
Professor Julian Chaudhuri, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education and Global), said: “Once again I am delighted to see the University of Bath perform so strongly across the different themes and it is particularly gratifying that the hard work to improve student voice is paying off with a much-improved score.
“During graduation week, I wanted to thank our final year students for taking part in the survey and to wish them much happiness and success in whatever comes next. I also want to thank colleagues who work so hard to ensure that the student experience at Bath is outstanding across the campus and beyond.”
The National Student Survey (NSS) is an independent survey, commissioned by the Office for Students, that gathers final year undergraduate students' opinions on their learning experience. NSS results are publicly available on the Discover Uni undergraduate course search.
The data relates to taught provision, and all modes and levels of undergraduate study.
