The University is seeking to recruit to a new senior role which will focus on student experience, engagement and wellbeing. Delivery of a positive student experience is the responsibility of many across the University, but now is the right time to invest in a senior role which will provide strategic oversight for student experience.

Professor Ian White, Vice-Chancellor and President, said: “Creating this new role is a reflection of the University’s commitment to providing a highly positive experience for each individual student. It will support our aim of ensuring that students leave the University confident and equipped to move to the next stage in their lives.”

The new Vice-President for Student Experience, who will be a member of the University Executive Board, will work with the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Learning & Teaching, Professor Peter Lambert, in monitoring measures of student satisfaction and ensuring that the student voice is heard. Professor Lambert said: “We have an excellent record in student experience and came 4th in the last (2018) THE Student Experience Survey. We are making this investment because this is a key issue in which government and other universities are increasingly focusing attention and resources. We come from a position of strength but without investment in this new post, there is a risk we will fall behind.”

The Vice-President will also play a leading role in the development of our community. Eve Alcock, President of the Students’ Union said: “Creation of this new Vice-President role is a really encouraging development for prospective and current students. I am looking forward to helping them build an extremely strong and positive relationship with the SU so we can work together on the issues which are so important to the student experience at the University”.

This role is being advertised internally to enable a current member of staff to develop their career and make an enhanced contribution to the delivery of University success at the highest level.
