What's happening
Visio and Project are no longer available to install on University-managed devices. The University is moving from campus-wide licences to per-user licences, funded by departments for the individuals who need them.
Relatively few colleagues use Visio or Project, so a campus-wide licence no longer represents good value. Per-user licences mean the University pays only for the people who need the software, while everyone keeps access to the browser versions through Microsoft 365.
If you already use Visio or Project
You don't need to do anything yet. Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) is funding licences for current users for the 2026/27 academic year and will contact you directly to arrange this.
If you're looking for an alternative
Visio for the web and Microsoft Planner are available in your browser through Office.com. You can also install two free applications from Company Portal:
- draw.io for diagramming, which can open your existing Visio files
- ProjectLibre for project planning, which can open your existing Project files
Where Visio or Project is used in teaching labs, DDaT is agreeing arrangements with each department directly.
