We are reaching out to staff who may have lost someone close to them at a young age. Losing someone close to you can have a real effect on yourself and others around you. Knowing that there are others out there who have experienced similar things can provide a sense of comfort. We are a small social group who have all lost someone close to us, and we would love to help others by offering support and providing a space for shared understanding.
The group is facilitated by Melissa (Human Resources), Jemma (Sports Development and Recreation) and Steve (Campus Services), all of whom have had experience of bereavement. It is not a therapy group and doesn’t require anyone to talk about their experiences: it is a safe space where you can choose to be quiet, or to share how you have been doing.
We are new group and have yet to decide on the format of these sessions or what activities we will offer when we meet. So, we are open to ideas for what you would like this supportive, social space to look like - whether this is doing some arts and crafts, walks around campus or just having some time out with a cup of tea and your favourite music. You don’t have to attend every month - just come and go as you please.
Join our first meet up
If you're interested in joining this group, please pop along to our first session on Monday 2 December 12:30 – 13:30 in C.B. 4.8, which coincides with the start of National Grief Awareness Week. If you would like to let us know in advance that you are coming, please sign up to the event. Otherwise, feel free to pop in on the day.
Please bring a packed lunch and a hot drink.
