As a student on our four-year MPharm at Plymouth, you will study the same course content as students at Bath, gaining a unique knowledge of the scientific development and clinical use of medicines, and preparing you for a career as a pharmacist. This will prepare you for a rewarding career as a pharmacist or in pharmaceutical research.

Graduating with a University of Bath degree, you’ll be taught by Devon-based University of Bath academic and practice staff while living and learning in Plymouth. This MPharm in a new location provides the opportunity to live and study in the vibrant and unique surroundings of Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City, home to over 4,500 health and social care students.

As a pharmacist, you’ll have a wide range of career opportunities; from the fast-paced hospital environment, to resolving day-to-day medical issues at a GP surgery, or being a key figure of trust in a community pharmacy. There's a high demand for pharmacists in the South West, with plenty of opportunities to stay in the region after you graduate.

We have a reputation for producing well-rounded and confident students, achieving high pass rates in the mandatory registration assessment set by the General Pharmaceutical Council. Our final-year MPharm students stand out to employers, consistently gaining high-quality Foundation Training places in a variety of sectors across the UK, through the national NHS recruitment process.

Learn in new, purpose-built facilities


As an MPharm student at Plymouth, you’ll be based in brand-new, purpose-built pharmacy facilities at the heart of campus. Plymouth is home to over 4,500 health and social care students in the Faculty of Health.

The new pharmacy facilities are currently in construction on the ground floor of the Nancy Astor Building and will be open ahead of the course starting in September 2024. They'll include practice-based and clinical teaching spaces, such as consultation rooms and simulation equipment.

You'll be registered as a University of Bath student, with access to all Bath’s support services. You'll also have access to the facilities at the University of Plymouth campus.

As a student on our 4-year MPharm course, you’ll go on regular placements in healthcare settings, gaining hands-on experience in hospitals, GP surgeries, and community pharmacies.

Over the years, we’ve developed strong and valued relationships with local NHS Trusts in Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset, as well as leading national community pharmacy chains in the South West. Plymouth is conveniently located near Derriford Hospital, the largest teaching hospital in Devon and Cornwall, providing plenty of opportunities for placements nearby.
