As a student on our four-year MPharm at Plymouth, you will study the same course content as students at Bath, gaining a unique knowledge of the scientific development and clinical use of medicines, and preparing you for a career as a pharmacist. This will prepare you for a rewarding career as a pharmacist or in pharmaceutical research.

Graduating with a University of Bath degree, you’ll be taught by Plymouth-based University of Bath academic and practice staff while living and learning in Plymouth. This provides you with the opportunity to live and study in the vibrant and unique surroundings of Plymouth, Britain’s Ocean City, home to over 4,500 health and social care students.

Are you interested in studying our four-year MPharm Pharmacy degree but don't quite have the qualifications you need to apply? Expand your foundational knowledge, skills and experience relevant to pharmacy on our integrated MPharm Pharmacy with preparatory year, delivered at the University of Plymouth.

Starting in September 2025, this new course offers our four-year MPharm Pharmacy course, with an additional preparatory year, bringing you to the same academic standing as students entering year one of our MPharm.

The preparatory year is a one-year, full-time course giving you knowledge and experience in chemistry, biology and mathematics relevant to pharmacy, as well as professional orientation and inter-professional learning. If, at the end of the year, you successfully pass all preparatory year units and achieve an overall year average of at least 60%, you'll be able to progress on to year one of our MPharm degree.

Take advantage of our strong partnerships

Placements are great opportunities to broaden your skills and decide the area of pharmacy that best fits you and your career. During your course, you’ll go on regular placements in healthcare settings, gaining hands-on experience in hospitals, GP surgeries, and community pharmacies.

Over the years, we’ve developed strong and valued relationships with local NHS Trusts in Devon, Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset, as well as leading national community pharmacy chains in the South West. University Hospitals Plymouth is the largest teaching hospital in Devon and Cornwall and provides many opportunities for placements nearby.

Learn in purpose-built facilities


As an MPharm student at Plymouth, you’ll be based in purpose-built pharmacy facilities at the heart of campus. Plymouth is home to over 4,500 health and social care students in the Faculty of Health.1

The pharmacy facilities, on the ground floor of the Nancy Astor Building1, include practice-based and clinical teaching spaces, such as consultation rooms and simulation equipment.

Applying for accommodation in Plymouth

As a University of Bath student living in Plymouth, you’ll have access to a variety of student accommodation options in Plymouth.

University of Bath students are included in the University of Plymouth guarantee for student accommodation, which is open to first year students who apply by the deadline and meet the Plymouth accommodation terms and conditions. You’ll need to make our MPharm your first choice before applying.

Choosing your accommodation

You can choose from a range of University-managed Halls of Residence on campus, private purpose-built student accommodation halls or rooms in private houses in the city.

Halls of residence

University of Plymouth-managed Halls are located on campus, or within the nearby student village – only a few minutes’ walk from university facilities and the city centre. Plymouth provides a range of support for students living in Halls such as social events and welfare support, as well as 24/7 security to help keep you safe.

Private accommodation

If living on campus is not for you, there’s a wide range of private accommodations to choose from. ANUK-accredited, privately managed Halls of Residence are in popular student areas in Plymouth city centre. Alternatively, you could rent accommodation, either on your own or with a group of other students, from a private landlord. Whether purpose-built student accommodation or student houses or flats, there's something to suit all budgets.

Be supported throughout your studies

As you follow your studies and find your way around Plymouth, you’ll have access to all of the support services you need to get the most out of your university experience.


Our specially trained support staff and students3 based at Bath can offer guidance and someone to talk to at times to suit you. This includes access to health, mental health, wellbeing, and money support.

Academic Advisor

From your first year, you’ll be allocated an Academic Advisor3, who will be based in Plymouth and able to provide academic and personal support to you throughout your studies.

Urgent support

If you’re ever concerned about your own or someone else’s wellbeing and need to speak to someone urgently, the University of Plymouth’s mental health advisor is available to speak to Monday to Friday, or you can contact Plymouth campus security 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Careers support

No matter what career path you choose to take after you graduate, you can access advice and resources from our Careers team3 to help prepare you for employment. Pharmacy academic staff will also support you in preparation for applying for your Foundation Training year.
