Training and support available for school/college teachers

We offer a range of training sessions, development programmes, and workshops at your school or college, to help you prepare your students for higher education.

Teacher Champion Programme 2023


To ensure that our outreach work reflects the perspectives of teachers, careers professionals, and educators, we will are now welcoming applications to join our Teacher Champion Programme.

This free, six-month online programme runs from March-July 2023, providing regular online sessions and an on-campus campus visit, bringing together professionals working in UK state schools and colleges who share a passion for championing access to higher education for underrepresented students.

Why take part?


Teachers taking part will gain:

  • Five webinars, each based on a different theme within higher education progression
  • Supportive peer discussion groups to share opportunities, challenges and give feedback to shape our future content
  • Access to an online Teacher Champion Toolkit with resources to use with students, parents/carers and colleagues
  • Direct access to university staff and insights from experts
  • Information and resources tailored to your school, setting or needs
  • The opportunity to attend a free Teacher Conference on campus on 7th July 2023 with a teacher guest (including optional overnight stay in Bath)
  • Teachers who complete the programme will gain ‘Teacher Champion Status’, with an email signature and certificate which can be used on CVs and for professional development
  • The opportunity to attend a free Teacher Conference on Campus (see more information below)

Teacher Conference 2023


If you gain a place on the programme, you will also have the opportunity to attend our on-campus Teacher Conference on Friday 7th July 2023. The conference will include research sharing, workshops, discussions and knowledge exchanges with academics and university staff to help you feel more confident to support your students with progression to higher education. A full agenda will be published closer to the date.

You will:

 Receive a free ticket to our on-campus Teacher Conference on Friday 7th July 2023 9.30am – 4pm, with a colleague or teacher friend.

Have access to fully subsidised overnight accommodation at the university on Friday 7th July.

Enjoy complimentary lunch, evening meal and breakfast (evening meal and breakfast only if staying overnight)

 Receive a contribution towards your cover costs to help you to attend.

Have access to a travel fund to help you attend.

Invitation to our Teacher Champion Awards reception with fizz and canapes.

Further details, eligibility and how to apply


This programme consists of five webinars. The launch webinar will take place on Thursday 23 March. The rest of the sessions will take place on 20th April, 4th May, 25th May and 15th June from 4 to 5 pm.

The theme of each webinar will be shared in advance so you can prepare for supportive peer discussions. After each webinar, you will be given access to resources for use in school such as assemblies and INSET presentations.

Teachers, careers professionals and educators from UK state secondary schools or colleges are welcome to apply.

We offer a range of training events on campus for teachers which vary from year to year. We also hold 'Spotlight on EPQ, IB, Welsh Bacc and other project qualifications' events.

Subject-specific training days for teachers and students are also offered in conjunction with our faculties.

If your busy school timetable makes it difficult for you to attend a training event on our campus, we may be able to deliver a presentation or workshop for a group of relevant staff at your school or college. Popular topics include:

  • UCAS reference writing – what to include
  • supporting students with their Personal Statement
  • university admissions and applying for competitive courses
