Use our hypoxic facility equipment

Our equipment and how it can support your hypoxic and anoxic research.

Our equipment

We have three pieces of equipment that can be booked for use in your research.

The hypoxic facility lets researchers control oxygen levels to study different aspects of cell function, from a single cell to entire cell populations. This provides cell models that mimic oxygen levels in living systems, enabling you to explore the effects of oxygen deprivation, which can lead to tissue damage and disease.

Our equipment provides a complete and integrated solution for diverse hypoxic and or anoxic studies:

  • Baker Ruskinn Sci-tive dual hypoxic workstation
  • BMG Labtech CLARIOstar plate reader (with regulated oxygen control)
  • Leica Dmi8 widefield microscope

Baker Ruskinn Sci-tive dual hypoxic workstation

The Baker Ruskinn Sci-tive dual hypoxic workstation offers cell culturing in fully environmentally controlled conditions, with an emphasis on controlling the oxygen levels to study different aspects of cell function.

The workstation is ideal for studying anoxia and hypoxia in cell models that mimic living systems, such as the tumour microenvironment.

Chamber construction

The workstation has a two-chamber construction with individually controlled atmospheres.

Left chamber

The left chamber offers a large working area for incubation, passaging, media transfers and cell culture, and a large pass-through interlock to easily transfer a variety of flasks, dishes and tubes inside the chamber without altering the internal environmental conditions.

Right chamber

The right chamber houses a Leica Dmi8 widefield microscope, which communicates internally with the left chamber, offering the possibility to image the cultured cells without exposing them to ambient atmospheric conditions.

BMG Labtech CLARIOstar plate reader (with regulated oxygen control)

The CLARIOstar is a multi-mode microplate reader with advanced LVF Monochromators™, highly sensitive filters, and an ultra-fast UV/vis spectrometer.

The CLARIOstar is a user-friendly fully featured plated reader, supporting a wide range of applications with full environmental control.

Its detection modes include:

  • fluorescence intensity
  • luminescence
  • UV/Vis absorbance
  • fluorescence polarisation and or anisotropy
  • time-resolved fluorescence
  • AlphaScreen® and or AlphaLISA®

Measurements can be done from the top or bottom of the plate. Measurements include:

  • endpoint and kinetic measurements
  • spectral scanning
  • well or plate scanning

The CLARIOstar can read all kinds of well-plates (6- to 1536-well plates). It also supports two reagent injectors into 96- and 384-well plates.

Leica Dmi8 widefield microscope

The Leica Dmi8 is housed inside the Baker Ruskinn Sci-tive dual hypoxic workstation.
