Synopsis: Develop a deeper understanding of an area of interest through independent study. You will investigate at least ten academic articles and identify key themes within them. Supported by further reading, You will produce an analysis and/or synthesis of the body of work. Entry to this unit is selective and you will need permission from your Director of Studies to do it.

Content: This unit enables students to develop an understanding of an area of interest through a period of independent study. The topic may be chosen based on the student's academic interests, professional/practical expertise or future employability goals. Students will be expected to identify key themes within an area of interest supported by at least ten articles from relevant literature, academic or otherwise, and to produce a meaningful analysis and/or synthesis of this body of work. The exact content depends on the programme and topic of interest of the student, to be agreed on with the supervisor. However, the student will work with a supervisor that will guide the student to achieve a deeper understanding of the topic of choice.
