Learning Outcomes: At the end of the unit, students will be able to:
  • Plan and conduct projects applying academic learning to practical business issues and activity.
  • Support their arguments with relevant empirical evidence. Develop viable alternatives and how they would contribute to management solutions.
  • Understand the needs of client organisations and manage the relationships with them.
  • Present conclusions in written and oral form.
  • Participate in team activity and contribute to the management of the group.
  • Reflect on the outcomes of an activity and the processes that led to those outcomes.
  • Identify literature relevant to chosen business issues and link it to practical experience.

Synopsis: Work in teams on a project with an external client organisation. You will gain experience of setting project objectives, project management and presenting. You will then apply management ideas to reflect on what you have learnt.

Content: The unit is intended to allow students to conduct team projects applying the skills, concepts, and techniques acquired in the taught programme to practice based business scenarios, typically to an initial specification from an external organisational client. Students are also required to reflect on the links between their team experiences and management academic theory and on the impact of the experience on their personal development. Students will receive formal guidance in whole cohort briefings on:
  • Presentation skills.
  • Project Management.
  • Reflective Writing.
Thus, the unit not only encourages students to conduct research to think about and address actual business problems through a cross-functional lens, the unit also encourages reflection on common managerial issues such as project management and group dynamics.
