Learning Outcomes: At the end of the unit, you will be able to:
  • Effectively generate, communicate and defend arguments relating to business and its social, environmental and economic issues;
  • Develop research skills through critical reading, information-gathering and the composition of written work;
  • Propose and evaluate the appropriateness of corporate responses to social, environmental and economic issues;
  • Discuss, evaluate and participate in debates about corporate social and environmental impacts and develop your capacity for active and creative contributions to public debates concerned with related issues.



Synopsis: Explore the differences between corporate responsibility and sustainability and develop an understanding of key relevant theories. You will advance your knowledge of the latest developments in the field and practically apply this knowledge to complex, social, and environmental issues that arise within today's business environment.

Content: Key elements to be included include:
  • Main theories and tools related to the contemporary CSR debates;
  • Empirical evidence regarding social, environmental and economic issues;
  • Using relevant theories to evaluate rhetoric and activities of businesses, governments and/or civil society;
  • Construction of well-planned, and sufficiently evidenced arguments regarding CSR issues and activities.
