Content:

The 21st century has so far witnessed the contradictory rise in awareness of various forms of oppression and the resurgence of reactionary movements, from the racist far right to sexism and transphobia.

While the electoral fortune of these movements has been uneven, their place in public discourse has grown tremendously and come to shape politics increasingly. We are therefore witnessing the return of ideas to the mainstream which were thought to have been relegated to the margins.

In this unit, you will critically engage with the most recent theoretical, conceptual and empirical developments in the field to help you make sense of these new developments likely to shape politics for years to come.

The topics explored will range from key terminology and concepts such as racism, populism, intersectionality, supporters and resistance.
