Gulielma Maw Collection

A small collection of the papers and correspondence of Gulielma Maw (1906-2004), educationalist and councillor.

Gulielma Maw (née Colbert) was born in Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, in 1906. She studied in Oxford marrying Daniel Scarrat Maw (1903-1984) in 1929. During her career she served as a JP, a magistrate and was Mayor of Bath from 1962 to 1963. She was a long-serving member of the City of Bath Education Committee, which she also chaired for many years. Gulielma Maw was made an Honorary Alderman of Bath in recognition of her services to the city.

The collection mainly comprises notes, papers, reports and correspondence relating to Gulielma Maw’s involvement with and support for the establishment and early development of Bath University of Technology (later the University of Bath) during the 1960s.

The collection was donated to the University of Bath by Mrs Barbara Maw in 2022.
