AAA or A*ABAAA or A*AB in three A levels including A in Mathematics and Physics
If you are taking a GCE A level in a science subject, you will need to pass any separate science practical endorsement.
Develop core knowledge of systems engineering across both mechanical and electrical engineering to boost your career prospects in industry.
Our course gives you a unique chance to balance an understanding of mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering sciences with a focus on systems engineering. You’ll develop a comprehensive knowledge of mechanics, materials, electrical and electronic systems and circuits. And you’ll explore the theory and practice of the latest mechanical and electrical technologies.
Being able to apply what you’ve learnt is an important part of your study at Bath. You’ll use theory in coordinated projects and laboratory work where you’ll design and develop products and systems.
Group and individual projects are a chance to explore creative approaches to engineering problems. You could design and build robotics, medical devices or sports and games equipment. You’ll also develop valuable skills to add to your technical and scientific knowledge. Through teamwork, problem-solving and management experience, you'll graduate prepared to work in professional engineering roles.
Studying an MEng degree gives you a more in-depth study experience through advanced taught units and semester-long individual and group project work. It also meets the educational requirements you need to become a Chartered Engineer.
We also offer this course with a placement year, giving you the opportunity to gain work experience as part of your degree.
You’ll learn from academics with expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering across a wide range of areas. These include biomechanics, tomography, automotive engineering, and advanced sensors. Their international collaborations and research activities feed into undergraduate teaching and contribute to your learning experience.
You’ll have access to facilities specially equipped for the application of electrical and mechanical engineering. We've designed our laboratories to be similar to industrial workspaces so you gain an insight into what it's like to work in a professional environment. These include laboratories for electric vehicles, robotics and autonomous systems design, rapid prototyping and a mechanical workshop.
We work with industrial partners to make sure our course content reflects the needs of engineering industries. When you graduate, you'll have the interdisciplinary skills needed across a wide range of engineering professions. You could go on to pursue successful careers in high-technology industries including electronics, power, automotive, robotics, aerospace or manufacturing. Some of our graduates continue their studies with us or at other universities for a career in academia or research.

This course lasts 4 years. It starts in September 2019 and ends in 2023. Induction week starts on 23 September 2019.
Occasionally we make changes to our programmes in response to, for example, feedback from students, developments in research and the field of studies, and the requirements of accrediting bodies. You will be advised of any significant changes to the advertised programme, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions.
At Bath, our courses are made up of units of study. Compulsory units cover core concepts that you'll need to understand as part of your degree programme. Some of our courses also offer the opportunity for you to study optional units. These allow you to specialise in particular areas of knowledge that interest you.
As an undergraduate, you will be expected to take 60 credits (ECTS) in each academic year. These are usually split into 30 credits for each semester you study. Sixty credits are the equivalent of 1200 notional hours of study; this includes contact time with staff and your own independent learning.
These compulsory units are currently being studied by our students, or are proposed new units.
You'll be able to choose from a number of optional units in years 3 and 4. Here are some examples of the units currently being studied by our students.
This average assessment breakdown is based on a typical choice of optional units. Your specific unit choices will determine the actual breakdown of assessment methods that you will experience.

By studying a course with a professional accreditation, you could have the chance to get workplace experience, learn about new developments in the industry and apply for membership with the accrediting body. You may also be able to apply for jobs in the industry without having to do any more exams.
‘The project management skills I have gained will no doubt be an asset to me after graduation. Developing engineering and business skills in a team environment sets students apart in industry.’
Your application, especially your personal statement, should explain your motivation for choosing this degree and any relevant non-academic interests and achievements. Your application is more likely to be successful if you demonstrate a strong interest in mechanical and electrical engineering through relevant reading, extracurricular or co-curricular activities, or work experience.
You will need a strong performance in both Mathematics and Physics or Engineering as part of your entry qualifications.

Unfortunately we are unable to accept students onto our degrees on the basis of this qualification alone. You will need to take an additional course before applying to us. This could be A levels, the International Baccalaureate Diploma or a recognised foundation course. Please contact us for further advice.
We accept these qualifications whether you have studied them in the UK or abroad. Our entry requirements are listed under the 'United Kingdom' section.
If you have not studied qualifications we typically accept or you do not expect to meet our requirements in your current studies you may wish to consider an International Foundation Year.
Bath College, our partner organisation in the centre of Bath, provide a one-year International Foundation Year programme. This course provides an opportunity for you to study on a dedicated track to a University of Bath degree.
We also accept International Foundation Years offered by other UK colleges and universities on a case-by-case basis. Please contact us for further advice.

We will usually assess you based on your UCAS application. If you are studying certain qualifications, such as an Access to HE Diploma, you may be invited to attend an interview as part of our selection process so we can better assess your studies and experiences. If you are studying an Access to HE Diploma, please make sure that your UCAS application is submitted by 15th January 2019: if you apply after this deadline, then it may be too late for us to include you in our interview process.
