The Bank of England has recently released its research agenda for the years 2025 – 2028. It details the keys areas of research the Bank wants further explored in order to inform their policies and guide policymakers’ decisions.

The Bank wants to encourage external researchers to work on these topics, collaborate with the Bank’s researchers and ultimately influence the Bank’s policy.

During this event, Dr Belinda Tracey, one of the researchers at the Bank of England will present the key themes and research topics of the latest research agenda. Following the presentation will be an opportunity for Q&A and networking. This will allow you to ask in further detail how your research aligns with the Bank’s research agenda and establish contact with relevant researchers at the Bank.

The research agenda spans a range of topics, many with an interdisciplinary focus and interest in the effect of AI, digitalisation, machine learning and climate change.

The agenda has been split into five separate themes:

  • The macroeconomic environment
  • The financial system
  • The prudential architecture
  • The interconnected world
  • The central bank balance sheet

With topics including:

  • Inflation dynamics and monetary policy transmission mechanism
  • How to improve forecasting models
  • The effect of privately issued digital currencies and central bank digital currency
  • Technological innovation, programmable platforms, AI and machine learning
  • How do prudential policies affect risk taking
  • Risk assessment toolkits for supervisors and regulators
  • Key drivers and emerging risks shaping international flows of goods, services and capital
  • International spillovers
  • Implication of structural shifts such as climate change, digitalisation and developments in the structure of global payment systems
