Title
A voyage from Maths and flamenco to antibiotics, griffins and the evolution of non-living things
Abstract
Zamin Iqbal took a rather circuitous route to this professorship. In this inaugural lecture, he will talk about how he, once a mathematician, found his way to the wonderful world of bacterial evolution, and tell the story of one experiment studying 100-year old bacteria. Along the way he will cover the nature of creativity in maths, music and science and what motivates us to do science.
