About the workshop

This workshop aims to familiarise students with the SPSS environment and its functions. It is intended to provide students with a basic grounding in SPSS before they attend other statistical workshops which will use SPSS.

It is suitable both for students who have not worked with SPSS before or those in need of a refresher course.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this workshop, students should be able to:

  • make the distinction between Data View and Variable View
  • make the distinction between Numeric and String elements
  • learn the differences between Nominal, Ordinal, and Scale levels of measurement
  • deal with missing values
  • input data in SPSS
  • locate the main SPSS tabs for statistical testing
