About the course
Social media – isn’t that wasting time on Facebook and Instagram?
Well yes, certainly that is one way to use social media. But as with so many things, if you use the right tools for the right job, social media can increase your impact, extend your reach and get you answers to tricky questions. It can connect you with likeminded researchers or potential employers.
This hands-on session will take you through some commonly used social media tools and how they can be used to further your career. We’ll also look at how to choose the right tools for the job, how to stop you ‘wasting time’, and how to build connections useful for your career. It’s suitable for researchers from all disciplines, and for all career paths including academia.
Intended learning outcomes

- learned which social media tools are commonly used by researchers and for what purposes
- considered which of these tools you wish to use and to what extent
