1:1 tutorials

Dissertation tutorials

50 minute 1:1 tutorials are available throughout the summer for all PGT students who need support writing their dissertation. You can book a tutorial no matter what stage of your writing you're at; work does not need to be finished, and could just be a couple of paragraphs, or even just a title. We're happy to review and discuss rough drafts and plans, and provide support with planning, time management, writer’s block, or not knowing where to start.

If you have questions about referencing, how to use figures and diagrams, or any other aspects of writing a dissertation you're not sure about, this is the right tutorial for you.

Appointments are available online and in-person. Book a tutorial in MySkills.

Skills for Success tutorials

We offer 25-minute in-person 1:1 tutorials in the Skills Zone (6E 2.8) to help you with any academic skills you want to develop, at any stage of your studies. Some online 1:1 tutorials are also available.

Our teachers will give you constructive and practical suggestions to help you succeed in your coursework and assessments. There is no requirement for you to upload a piece of work in advance but booking is required on MySkills.

Email Feedback on Writing

In addition to booking a tutorial, you can also request feedback on a piece of writing by email.

The writing tutor will send you their feedback within three working days of the feedback slot you have booked (not the time you book the slot).

Advance booking is required on MySkills. You'll need to upload a draft of your work when you book an appointment and provide details of the assignment, if applicable.

Self-access resources

You can access various online resources in MySkills to develop your academic skills in your own time.

You can also find lots of practical guidance on developing a range of academic skills on our blog.

Workplace Essentials

Starting a new job - whether it’s an internship, part-time role, or graduate position - can be both exciting and challenging. You’re often expected to adapt quickly, learn new tools, and communicate professionally in unfamiliar environments.

This series of workshops will support you through that transition and help you build confidence in the core skills employers value most. From writing clearly and managing emails to using Excel and contributing in diverse teams, each session focuses on a key area to help you feel more prepared and capable in the workplace. Each workshop will be either in-person or online, depending on the topic.

These workshops are available to book via MySkills.
