The University of Bath holds the University Mental Health Charter (UMHC) Award. We have made an ongoing commitment to embedding a whole-university approach to mental health and wellbeing. Internally, this commitment is known as Be Well at Bath.
Be Well strives for the university community to consider wellbeing in all our activities and functions, touching on all aspects of student and staff life at Bath. Our methodology for Be Well is based on the UMHC Framework supported by the UK Government and Office for Students.
When writing a report for a committee or board, it is valuable to consider the impact on wellbeing to enable the members to consider whether or how it supports staff and/or student wellbeing. Reports cover varied topics and for a wide range of reasons, and the UMHC Frameworkâs evidence-informed principles can help guide you.
This section is not intended to be onerous. Questions to help you complete this section of the report, or to consider at the start of a project, initiative, or proposal, are:
- Have we considered how this could impact student and/or staff mental health and wellbeing, in both the short- and long-term?
- Will the impact be positive, negative, or neutral?
- If negative, how are we able to minimize this?
- Have we addressed these considerations within the report and explained why we are recommending or taking a certain decision/approach?
If you need more advice, one of the Be Well leads will be able to help. Find their details on the Be Well at Bath webpage.
