Living safely with respiratory infections, including Covid-19

Read guidance on good practice to prevent the spread of respiratory diseases in the autumn and winter months.

The UK government has information on living safely with respiratory infections, including Covid-19, which includes ventilating spaces and practising good hand and respiratory hygiene. It also explains when you may consider wearing a face covering or a face mask.

What to do if you are unwell

If you are unwell with a respiratory condition, you can read NHS guidance on how to avoid passing a respiratory tract infection to others. Respiratory tract infections (RTIs) include colds, bronchitis, sinusitis and chest infections. The NHS advise you to stay at home and avoid contact with other people if you have a high temperature or don’t feel well enough to do your normal activities. If you’re not able to work from home, please speak to your line manager.

This guide also includes advice on steps you can take to avoid catching an RTI.

What to do if you're at increased risk from Covid-19

The NHS also has extra steps on how to avoid catching and spreading Covid-19 that you can take if you are at increased risk.
