Before you upload or request uploading your image, make sure your image is appropriate for the website and you have correctly prepared the image.
Images that display on our website are hosted through the University of Bath Flickr account.
To add an image to a page in Typecase, you will need to:
- Upload the image you want to use to the University’s Flickr account, or, if you don’t have access, request a static URL from the Digital team.
- Locate and copy the image’s static URL.
- Paste that link into the relevant Image web address (URL) field in your page’s Typecase edit screen.
You must have permission to use any image you’d like to add to your web page. For more information on permissions, see where to find images for the website.
Requesting a static URL for an image without accessing Flickr
If you rarely need to add images to web pages and don’t have login details for the University’s Flickr account, you can:
- request to have an image uploaded to create a static URL
- request the static URL of an image that already exists in our Flickr Photostream
- ask for support with other Flickr-related requests
To do any of these, you’ll need to complete our request help with Flickr content form.
Please optimise your image for use on a web page before submitting them with the form. This helps to keep image size down, which uses less data and enables our site to load faster for all users.
Getting a static URL for an image by accessing Flickr
To create a static URL for an image, yourself, you’ll first need access to the University’s Flickr account.
Requesting login details for the University’s Flickr account
If you regularly need to add images to web pages, and don’t already have access to the University’s Flickr account, you can request login details by emailing web-support@bath.ac.uk
Uploading an image to Flickr and finding its static URL
Find out how to add images to Flickr and:
- find static URLs to use in Typecase
- create and manage photo albums and collections in Flickr
Locating an existing image in Flickr
If you need to access an image in Flickr that you’ve previously added to a page in Typecase, there are two ways to do this. You can:
- search directly for images in Flickr with the search function
- use part of the image’s static URL in Typecase to locate it in Flickr
Search for an image in the University’s Flickr Photostream
- Navigate to the University’s Flickr home page.
- Select the magnifying glass icon to the right of the word ‘Organize’ above the grid of photos – this will ensure your search will be of our Photostream, and not all of Flickr.
- Use the search bar at the top of the page to locate your image.
Find an image using its static URL
- Find the static URL for the image you want to locate in the Typecase edit screen of your page. It will look something like this: https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/54579820385_d16aa082a8_o_d.jpg
- Copy the number image ID from the URL. This is the second, longer number (54579820385 in the example).
- Paste this number onto the end of this: http://flickr.com/photo.gne?id=
- Paste the new URL you've created (in our example, http://flickr.com/photo.gne?id=54579820385) into your web browser. This will take you directly to the image’s page on Flickr.
