Our team here in the Department of Physics is looking to appoint a passionate, self-motivated candidate for the role of Department Support Technician to support our teaching endeavours and research in the field of Optical Physics. This role is offered on a full time, open ended basis.

A significant part of the role will be in the teaching labs, ensuring good practical designs and preparations for teaching are established as well as engaging with the students to aid effective learning. Ideally, candidates will have proven experience of organising the physical and technical support for large lab-based practicals. The role will also engage with researchers providing support in the design and construction of instrumentation and data management particularly in our Astrophysics lab.

The role will require you to liaise regularly with technicians, demonstrators, teaching and academic staff, as well as compliance and service engineers in order to ensure the successful delivery of teaching and continuity of service to research. As such you will need to be highly organised, adaptable, with excellent interpersonal skills. An ability to maintain a good oversight of resources is essential. Flexible working is required to accommodate teaching and an ability to remain positive, be pragmatic, troubleshoot and work independently in a dynamic environment is essential.
