The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistical Applied Mathematics (SAMBa) (Please click here to view more details) is a large training and research centre based in Mathematical Sciences at the University of Bath. The CDT supports the training of PhD students through a tailored first year programme delivering research and skills training in the broad area of statistical applied mathematics, followed by individual research projects. SAMBa has been in operation for 5 years and grown rapidly and with great success, now hosting around 80 PhD students and working with approximately 50 academic staff in the department and a further 50 across campus. We also collaborate with a large number of external partners from industry, government agencies, and overseas institutes. We have recently received funding from EPSRC and the University of Bath to continue for another 8 years.

About the role

We are seeking a creative, entrepreneurial individual to manage and drive forward our EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Statistical Applied Mathematics (SAMBa), ensuring its successful delivery and future sustainability.

The manager will work closely with the SAMBa co-directors, academic supervisors, coordination staff, and our industrial and international partners. This is a wide-ranging role with responsibility for delivering the strategy of the Centre both within the long-term vision and on a daily basis.

A key part of the role will be professional facilitation of doctoral training activities including the flagship Integrative Think Tanks (ITTs) with targeted follow up to leverage the ideas developed at the ITT, enabling and supporting routes to funding of ongoing collaborative research activities.

The manager will also pursue additional funding and long-term engagement with new and existing UK and international industrial and academic partners, will be responsible for coordinating public engagement and impact activities, and for liaison with EPSRC.

About you

The successful candidate will hold a PhD degree or equivalent professional qualification and have significant experience in a similar role. It is essential that candidates have programme and finance management skills, and experience of stakeholder management at the interface of academia and industry.

We are happy to explore flexible working options but there will be times when the post-holder is expected to be available (for example, during the Integrative Think Tank events).

Benefits:

You will also be entitled to a very generous 19.5% employer contributory pension (8.8% employee contributions) as well as the following employee benefits:

  • 39 days holiday pro-rata, (annual leave, discretionary days and bank holidays)
  • A flexible working environment
