The Department of Mechanical Engineering requires a highly skilled, adaptable and self- motivated Senior Technician / Skilled Machinist to provide technical support to the Materials and Structures Research Centre.

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing technical advice and support to academic and research staff in the MAST’s workshops and laboratories and for the direct supervision of a laboratory technician. 

You will be proficient in the safe operation and use of a variety of mechanical workshop machine tools together with fitting, assembly, sheet metal and fabrication skills. CNC machining and Computer Aided Design is also a requirement of the role, whilst some welding experience would also be desirable. Proven experience of working with material testing equipment and systems is a pre-requisite, however, knowledge of vibration equipment and instrumentation would be an advantage. In addition, you should have relevant qualifications at GCSE level or equivalent experience working in a relevant field. 

This role will also be responsible for giving technical advice and assistance with the design of and for the manufacture and maintenance of specialist rigs, equipment and components using the aforementioned equipment and skills.
