The Department of Mechanical Engineering requires a highly skilled, adaptable and self- motivated Composites Technician to provide technical support to the department’s composites, engineering and aerospace laboratories.

The successful applicant will be responsible for providing technical advice and support to academic and research staff in the composites, engineering and aerospace workshops and laboratories. He/she will be proficient in the safe operation and use of composite materials and processes. The ability to use a variety of mechanical workshop machine tools together with fitting, assembly, sheet metal and fabrication skills would be an advantage. He/She will also be responsible for giving technical advice and assistance with the design of and for the manufacture and maintenance of specialist rigs, equipment and components using the aforementioned processes and equipment. Previous experience of working with composite materials, aero structures, wind tunnels, autoclaves and instrumentation would also be an advantage.

Applicants should ideally have served a recognised mechanical engineering or technical apprenticeship, possess a minimum of a City and Guilds qualification or equivalent and have substantial experience of working in an engineering or composites environment.

The post is offered on an open ended contract with a starting salary of £21,585 rising to £24,983 per annum by annual increments.
