Dr Roger Jardine Director of Research Computing

Roger heads up the Research Computing team and leads on developing a coherent digital research infrastructure that meets Bath’s diverse research needs.

Role

The Director of Research Computing ensures the University has a coherent digital research infrastructure that seamlessly connects researchers to the computers, data, tools, and skills that are needed to conduct world-leading research.

Bath’s digital research infrastructure includes large-scale computing and research data storage facilities, wide-ranging research software packages, and the staff that develop, maintain and support these resources.

Roger's responsibilities include:

  • working with researchers to understand their current and future needs and ensure the University’s digital research infrastructure supports their diverse and evolving needs.
  • facilitating the growth of Bath's digital research infrastructure to drive excellence, support the continued growth of research volume and enhance the experience of researchers.
  • building a shared and aspirational research computing strategy for the University, and bringing the strategy to fruition.

Career

Before joining Research Computing, Roger was Director of Technology at the University of Bath, leading eleven teams across diverse technology areas, including Intelligent Campus & Networks, High Performance Computing, Software Development and Corporate Systems. Before this, Roger was Assistant Director of Computing Services at the University of Bath.

Outside of work, Roger has a keen interest in 3D printing and Smart Home technology.
