Billie Abrahams General Technician

Billie provides general technical support for the Imaging Facility, carrying out maintenance and sample preparation for its microscopy services.

Role

Billie’s role in the Imaging Facility involves instrument maintenance, sample preparation, and operation of microscopes and other analysis equipment, alongside routine laboratory upkeep.

She also supports the wider Core Research Facility with chemical inventory and related laboratory management, and helps to ensure the facility’s consistent service by assisting team members and training students.

Career

Billie has served a technical role in laboratories in multiple educational establishments across the country, supporting further education and higher education science departments. She has been involved in education as both a teaching lab assistant and biology teacher, and has experience in academic research.

Her main areas of professional experience are protein biochemistry and molecular biology, utilising techniques including polymerase chain reaction (PCR), Western Blot, Mammalian tissue culture, and microbiology. 

Education

Billie obtained a BA from the University of Cambridge in 2017, reading Natural Sciences specialising in Earth Science. During this time, she gained experience in a broad range of scientific disciplines, including geological fieldwork. Since then she has been pursuing a career in the life sciences and developing her laboratory skills.
