This project will pilot and evaluate a longitudinal reflective curriculum designed to bridge the awareness to action gap in clinical psychology training. It supports the development of inclusive and anti-discriminatory clinical competence as a professional meta-competency within trainees undertaking the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology programme at the University of Bath.

A complete three-year curriculum has been developed and mapped against British Psychological Society, BABCP, HCPC and NHS England requirements. This project will pilot the Year 1 component: three developmental strands addressing race and whiteness, disability and ableism, and neurodiversity. Rather than relying on isolated workshops, the curriculum embeds weekly guided reading, protected reflective time and facilitated discussion. Trainees engage with lived experience perspectives, critically examine their own assumptions and apply learning to assessment, formulation, intervention, supervision and service delivery. Texts include 'Me and White Supremacy', 'Demystifying Disability', 'Disability Visibility' and 'Unmasking Autism'.

The project is based on the proposition that this competence develops through repeated engagement and application over time, rather than awareness alone. Funding will support co-production with trainees and people with lived experience, curriculum refinement and evaluation. This will generate evidence on feasibility, acceptability and educational impact, and a transferable framework to inform curriculum development across other professional programmes.
