This project developed a practical framework and accompanying workshop to support the teaching of regenerative design, explicitly aligned with the University of Bath’s RENEW manifesto. The framework translates core RENEW principles, including delivering net-positive impact, fostering ecological regeneration, promoting social equity, and enhancing wellbeing, into a structured yet flexible pedagogical approach. It encourages systems thinking, place-based engagement, and the development of interventions that actively restore and strengthen both natural and social systems.

Initially, the framework is designed to be adaptable and scalable across all departments within the Faculty of Engineering and Design, enabling interdisciplinary adoption and integration into diverse curricula. It offers flexible tools, methods, and teaching strategies that can be tailored to specific disciplinary contexts while maintaining a shared regenerative vision. In the longer term, the framework has the potential to extend beyond the Faculty, supporting broader institutional uptake.

The workshop brings this framework to life through an interactive format that combines concise theoretical inputs with collaborative, hands-on activities.

Participants engage with real-world challenges, undertake systems mapping, identify leverage points, and co-create regenerative design responses aligned with RENEW’s vision of resilient, thriving futures. Reflective exercises further support critical thinking and self-awareness.

By bridging theory and practice, the initiative embeds RENEW values within teaching, equipping learners with the skills, mindsets, and confidence needed to contribute to transformative, future-oriented design practice.
