Pathway to HEA Fellowship for probationary lecturers - minimum requirements

Probationary staff who teach must complete a programme of sessions within the Pathway to HEA Fellowship for probationary lecturers as a mandatory requirement.

University minimum probationary requirements

The University's Academic Staff Committee has agreed that lecturers on probation should complete a programme of sessions within the Pathway to HEA Fellowship for probationary lecturers.

The minimum University probation requirements for completion depend on your contract and/or role and are for >0.4FTE staff. For more details, see the University’s academic career progression document and Quality Assurance code of practice statement (updated versions available shortly).

Accreditation of prior (experiential) learning - AP(E)L

The University staff with sufficient prior learning and experience relating to teaching may have the opportunity to claim exemption from the programme of sessions of the Bath Pathways to HEA Fellowship (PHEAF). This is not the same as seeking exemption from probation overall.

Exemption from the programme may be granted for those members of staff who have already gained an HEA Fellowship on the same level as is their probationary requirement. However, even in such cases, participation in (selected sessions of) the Bath PHEAF is strongly encouraged on voluntary basis as this enhances the process of settling in and getting familiar with the specific teaching/research environment of the University of Bath, especially for those staff who are new to the University.

All participants claiming exemption need to provide the evidence of Fellowship (Advance HE certificate/ registration number). Furthermore, Lecturers (T) will need to complete the Senior Teaching Observation and Lecturers (R&T) will need to complete the Research component of the PHEAF and the Senior Teaching Observation, including when AP(E)L is granted.
