Article 26
Article 26 promotes access to Higher Education for people who have fled persecution and sought asylum in the UK.
The Article 26 project works in partnership with universities to provide advice and guidance on creating packages of support for students seeking asylum, which enables them to not only access but succeed in Higher Education.
Bath Welcome Refugees
Bath Welcomes Refugees is a charity for refugees and asylum seekers. They provide help with resettlement into the UK including English language classes and interpreters, benefits and budgeting advice, assistance with transport and a monthly social gathering. They engage with local people working directly with refugees and asylum seekers to build new lives.
The Bristol Refugee Rights Welcome Centre
The Bristol Refugee Rights Welcome Centre is a support service and social space for asylum seekers as well as new refugees. They provide help with legal matters and the UK asylum process, health and housing advice, English language classes, and interpreters.
British Red Cross
British Red Cross independent provider of services and support for refugees and people seeking asylum. They offer emergency help, one-to-one support and casework, special services for children and families, and family reunions.
RefuAid
RefuAid provides people who have fled their homes with tailored support to build independent and dignified lives in the UK. It is a charity that support access to language tuition, education, finance and meaningful employment for those forced to flee their homes.
Refugee Action
Refugee Action give expert advice and guidance to those struggling to navigate the failing asylum system. They help those with refugee status to settle into their new homes and communities – everything from helping children into schools, to support booking doctors appointments, and ensuring they get a hot meal when they arrive.
Refugee Council
Refugee Council provide asylum and welfare support, help trafficked children and those whose age has been disputed. They offer mental health therapy, and help with issues such as their care arrangements, education, health issues and other concerns. The Infoline connects people seeking asylum, and those who have recently received a decision on an asylum claim, with relevant information and services to avoid or reduce crisis and destitution.
Refugee Education UK
Refugee Education UK is a national charity which helps young refugees, asylum seekers and survivors of trafficking. They are working towards a world where all refugee and asylum-seeking young people can access education, thrive in education and use that education to create a hopeful, brighter future. Refugees at Home
Refugees at Home is a UK charity which connects those with a spare room in their home to refugees and asylum seekers in need of somewhere to stay. So far it has been responsible for placing 4,578 guests with a total of 365,587 placement nights.
Schwab & Westheimer Trust
The Schwab & Westheimer Trust is a national charity which provides financial assistance towards education for asylum seekers and refugees. This includes 1 scholarship for young asylum seeker to study for a first degree or professional qualification. The scholarship will pay home tuition fees*, and associated study costs. Also, grants are available of up to £2,000 for Asylum seekers and refugees students who are needing help with resources in their courses.
*The trust will help candidates who are successful at interview to request home fees from their chosen university. The final award of a Westheimer Scholarship will be dependent on successfully getting a home tuition fee offer.
Student Action for Refugees (STAR)
Student Action for Refugees (STAR) is a national network of students building a society where refugees are welcomed. They volunteer at local refugee projects, campaign to improve the lives of refugees and educate people about refugees and asylum. Trauma Foundation South West
Trauma Foundation South West provide free counselling, psychotherapy and support for those that have been traumatised by war and persecution.
UN Refugee Agency
The UN Refugee Agency (UNHRC) protects people forced to flee their homes as well as stateless persons.
They deliver life-saving assistance in emergencies, safeguard fundamental human rights, and help find long-term solutions so they can find a safe place to call home. There is a platform on their website which helps you to find accredited higher education academic or scholarship programmes verified by UNHCR to allow you to pursue advanced study, skills and professional development.
We Belong
The We Belong organisation fights for the rights of young migrants to be treated fairly and provides advocacy, support and assistance to young people who aren’t a UK National, including advice on eligibility for student funding.
