AB InBev – the world’s largest brewing company – has renewed their commitment to supporting scholarships for students at the University of Bath.

The AB InBev Scholarship is unique to Bath and hopes to encourage more students to excel in STEM subjects. Up to five high-potential undergraduate students from low-income backgrounds will be supported each year, for three years of study.

Applications for the AB InBev Scholarship are open until November 2019 and places are still available. Please share the details with any first year students who may be interested.

AB InBev scholars receive financial support throughout their studies, two paid summer internships within the business (one in London and one in Prague) and the chance to gain invaluable business and employability experience. This includes mentoring by senior leaders, industrial placement opportunities and involvement in the company’s Better World activities.

The current scholars have created a video to thank AB InBev for investing in them and for committing to support future students as well.

The AB InBev Scholarship was established in 2016 with a pledge to support six scholars over three years, but the high standard of Bath applications led to nine scholarships being awarded instead! In October 2019, the company pledged to award up to 15 further scholarships between now and 2022.

Vital support

The AB InBev Scholarships provide vital opportunities for bright minds who may otherwise miss out on experiences that are afforded to others during their time at university.

Mike Nicholson, Director of Undergraduate Admissions and Outreach, said: “I would like to thank AB InBev for providing very generous assistance through their Scholarship programme that has so far supported nine Bath undergraduates. Their support, through mentoring, placement opportunities and a financial bursary, has significantly expanded the opportunities available to the recipients. In particular, the continued engagement of the AB InBev mentors, who are excellent and inspiring role models, has been transformative. I am delighted that AB InBev has committed to supporting up to 15 further transformative scholarship opportunities at Bath."

Alumna Jessica David Markowski (MBiochemistry, 2001), Budweiser Brewing Group's Sales Director - Convenience & Wholesale, said: “We’re a global company that is determined to support diversity and inclusion in all its forms. The University of Bath produces some of the most creative and driven graduates in the country, so we’re delighted to be investing in bright minds and enabling scholars to make the most of their time at university. We can’t wait to see what our scholars go on to achieve in the world of work – we expect great things!”

Lucy Crisp, Head of Corporate Partnerships at the University, said: “The significant support we receive from companies has a transformational impact on students here at Bath. The AB InBev Scholarships are particularly special as they make vital employability and mentoring opportunities accessible to students across the whole University who are looking for a helping hand to realise their full abilities.

"Working with companies like AB InBev is hugely beneficial for Bath; international placements help students stand out in a competitive job market and exploring research collaborations on global challenges such as sustainability means our academics can have a real impact on these issues. We are delighted that our partnership with AB InBev continues to grow and look forward to what we can achieve through future collaboration.”

Applications for the AB InBev Scholarship close in November 2019 and places are still available.
