KTPs are funded by Innovate UK to provide access to leading academic experts, boost innovation, create new IP, and develop new products, processes and services.
The University hosted a KTP engagement event, delivered by the Business Partnerships and Knowledge Exchange team in RIS, for companies and academics to explore opportunities of working together to solve business challenges.
Importantly KTPs not only drive innovation but lead to increased revenue, new markets and customers, and qualifies for R&D tax credits and Patent Box benefits.
The team ran facilitated project development sessions at the Ignite+ event with tailored support, enabling companies to learn about the application process and connect with academics, business support teams, and Innovate UK.
Dr Daniel Denning, Engineering Manager at Viper Innovations Ltd, attended the event. He said:
We left the Ignite+ KTP engagement event enthusiastic about what Knowledge Transfer Partnerships could do to help Viper. The importance of the need for the project to support strategic development and growth was really exciting to hear. It allows Viper to tap into what is effectively commercial research.
At the event I met some university colleagues to collaborate with. We left with an action to look at forming a partnership with some project leads with the purpose to complete a KTP Fact Finding Form. As an innovation company we have plenty of projects to look at. We are looking forward to getting a Bath KTP.
Professor Manuch Solemani from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering who has been involved in many KTPs, also attended the event. He said:
The event was very informative from an academic point of view. I have had several in-depth conversations with the industrialists attending the event. During these conversations I direct them to my own research and when appropriate to the other world-leading researchers at the University. Ultimately we want to tackle urgent real-life problems posed and presented by the companies. I am excited to follow up on some of these conversations leading to impactful research in the near future.
