Work on the new building for the School of Management has moved rapidly since the design received planning consent in July.

The contractor Andrew Scott has excavated over 40,000m3 of earth and rock and started pouring the concrete base, with the two storey basement slated for completion by July.

Hoarding graphics from the IDPS (Imaging, Design and Print Services) team have been installed along the site perimeter highlighting the research impact the building will support, with a focus on the School’s Research4good campaign.

The design by British architects Hopkins aims to create a unique space that sparks partnerships between students, academics from across the University and business. You can see how the building is progressing on the timelapse video.

Professor Veronica Hope Hailey, Dean of the School of Management and Vice-President (Corporate Engagement), said: “It’s extremely exciting to see the pace of change and the outline of the building starting to take shape.

“Whilst everyone has been working incredibly hard, elements of the planning process had an impact on our start date. This means we’re developing a contingency timing plan with colleagues across the University, which will be based around completion in Easter 2021.”
