Change your regular commute and try out sustainable alternatives

Enhance your daily commute and take care of your wellbeing this season by choosing low-carbon options.

  • 1 May 2024, 9.00am to 1 May 2024, 4.00pm BST (GMT +01:00)
  • University of Bath
  • This event is free

Switch up your commute to:

  • save money on driving, bus tickets, parking
  • feel better by getting active outdoors (it's a great way to help alleviate stress, particularly during the exam season)
  • join a community of active travellers
  • reduce your personal carbon footprint
  • improve local air quality

The University has a range of initiatives in place to support student and staff active travel commuting. You can find out more and see tailored advice on our active travel webpage.

Dr Bike

Bring your bike for a free service, providing a basic safety and maintenance check. For more extensive repairs a charge will apply.

Julian House Bike Workshop's mechanics will check your bike over, including any adjustments and tuning as required to brakes and gears. They can undertake basic repairs, and if any minor, new parts are required, you will be able to pay for them to be fitted there and then. If your bike requires more work then they can provide you with a quote to have it fixed in their Bath workshop.

Bikes will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

Bike marking

Avon and Somerset Police will join us to offer a free bike marking service. You can have your bike marked with a trackable code and registered to the national database. This can help deter thieves and also means that should your bike ever be stolen, if it is found, then it can be identified as yours, and police can track it back to you.

E-bikes and e-scooters

For anyone interested in purchasing an e-bike, there will be an opportunity to try out an e-bike on the day. Local supplier, Take Charge Bikes will be there to give tips and expert guidance about how to use an e-bike, the various options available (from a standard e-bike to folding or cargo options), and to give advice about what to buy for any interested to find out more.

Tier e-bikes and e-scooters will be there, and they will be giving out free helmets (to anyone that downloads and verifies the app). Tier offers a 35% discount for University staff and students through the UK Access Scheme.
