Role
Duncan Craig was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Science in February 2023, having previously served as Chair in Drug Delivery and Interim Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences at UCL.
Research
Duncan's research involves the development of novel drug delivery systems, with particular focus on nanofabrication and microfluidics so as to allow more effective biological activity of drugs ranging from low molecular weight molecules through to genetic material.
His teaching expertise ranges from basic principles of pharmaceutical science through to industrial pharmacy and the development of novel clinical services. He has developed several new pharmacy schools and courses, including the establishment of the Schools of Pharmacy at the University of East Anglia and New Giza University in Egypt. Duncan is the director of two companies, Gustoceutics and DQMC Solutions.
Publications
Career
Duncan graduated in pharmacy from the University of Bath and conducted his PhD at the School of Pharmacy, University of London (now UCL School of Pharmacy). He was appointed as Chair in Biophysical Pharmacy at Queen’s University Belfast (1999), then moved to the University of East Anglia to set up the School of Pharmacy there (2003).
He moved back to lead the newly merged UCL School of Pharmacy in 2013, remaining in this role until 2022 when he took up the position of Interim Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences. He then moved back to Bath in March 2023 to take up his current position.
He chaired the Pharmacy Schools Council from 2019 to 2022 and was actively involved in working with the General Pharmaceutical Council in determining the new educational standards that would allow pharmacists to become independent prescribers on registration.
