Unix - Accessing Unix
The Unix user service machines currently comprise the following servers:
- lcpu.bath.ac.uk
Any computer with suitable software and network connectivity should be able to access these servers. Software commonly used is:
- SSH
- Exceed connectivity suite
- Telnet (campus network only)
The PC Exceed connectivity suite from Hummingbird provides an X Windows server to enable Unix GUI X applications to be utilised from PCs. Public access PCs have this software installed and access to the Unix machines is possible using, for example:
- Start → Programs → Unix Applications → amos, mary, or midge
The Sun Ray terminals also give access providing both a command line interface and the ability to run X applications.
