To allow students to develop key knowledge and understanding to become competent coaches, athletes, fitness instructors, sports therapists. Key skills that contribute to effective leadership will be considered and an emphasis will be placed upon ensuring that students continually critically analyse and reflect on their performance as an athlete, coach, fitness instructor or sports therapist.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this unit students will be able to:
* demonstrate a clear understanding of the key principles contributing to successful practical performance;
* demonstrate key pedagogical skills required to be competent professional practitioners;
* recognise how to plan effectively and implement strategies to produce effective coaching / client based session;
* reflect and provide critical analysis on their own coaching / leadership performance;
* communicate effectively.

Content:
* creating a session plan incorporating safety, organisational factors, importance of warm up and cool down, supervision, organisation and control;
* analyse and improve specific performance in a chosen sport / activity;
* recognise key areas within skill development and acquisition and the differences between ability, technique and skill implications for professional development;
* identify and implement effective performance including motivating participants, principles of goal setting, feedback and evaluation;
* differentiate and evaluate sessions for beginners, children, individuals and groups, including client (sports therapy and/or fitness).
