To provide an understanding of the three-dimensional structure of protein molecules that play an important role in the immune system.
Learning Outcomes: After taking this course the student should be able to:
* describe and explain the molecular basis for antigen:antibody interaction;
* explain the role of antibody as a component of the immune system;
* explain the basis of specific immunochemical methods and their applications.

Content: Overview of the immune system and the biological role of antibodies, structure of an antibody molecule and its relationship to antigen-binding and effector functions, principles of immunochemical techniques, protein:protein interactions and their importance for the function of oligomeric proteins, principles of protein folding and understanding of the three-dimensional structure of immunological relevant proteins.
