To allow students to gain an understanding of the key concepts and processes that underpins the study of physical education through selected practical activities.

Learning Outcomes:
Students completing this unit will:
* Develop knowledge and understanding of the key concepts and processes of the PE National Curriculum;
* Gain experience and knowledge of the acquisition and development of practical skills related to two selected national curriculum activity areas;
* Develop evaluative and diagnostic skills relevant to self and others.

Skills:

* Effective oral communication (e.g. teaching presentations) T/F/A
* Ability to apply theory into practice. F
* Ability to work effectively as part of a group or team. F
* Students will gain both diagnostic and evaluative skills relevant to self and peer observation. F/A
* Students will be expected to work without supervision. F

Content:

* National Curriculum practical subject knowledge in two selected areas of activity
* Principles of skill acquisition through key concepts and processes identified in the PE National Curriculum
* Continuity, progression and transition within two selected activity areas
* Understanding different roles (i.e. performer, coach, choreographer, official) within two selected activity areas
* Self and peer observation to inform teaching and learning
* Planning and evaluation
* encourage students to take NGB coaching qualifications or external awards where applicable.
