The aim of this unit is to introduce the key stages in the design, development and delivery of distance and open learning courses for coach (and more general) educational purposes. Examples of sport and coaching courses will be used to exemplify these issues.

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this unit participants will be able to:
* Use one of the key theories in open, distance or online learning to design an open, distance or online learning course (either in a generic sense and in relation to a physical education and coaching context)
* Describe the key stages in design, development and delivery of a distance, online or open learning programme through the design of a specific course or learning resource (in an area of coaching, sport or general educational interest)
* Select and apply appropriate media in their design of an open or distance learning course
* Produce an outline open, distance or online course using approaches discussed in this unit
* Reflect on the process of designing an open, distance or online course.
