To understand how thermodynamics and fluid mechanics can be applied to engineering systems.

Learning Outcomes:
After taking this unit the student should be able to:
* Calculate pressure losses and flow distributions in duct/pipe networks.
* Perform cavitation calculations on simple systems.
* Calculate the thermodynamic properties of gas-vapour mixtures.
* Perform combustion calculations involving dissociation.
* Carry out 2nd Law analysis on systems.
* Perform compressible flow calculations including the effects of friction and heat transfer.

Skills:
Problem solving; numeracy; working independently.

Content:
Pipe flows and networks. Cavitation. Gas vapour mixtures. Exergy Combustion. Rayleigh flow. Fanno flow.
