Click here for further information Description: Aims:
To provide an introduction to measurement, instrumentation and signal processing relevant to Sports Engineering.

Learning Outcomes:
(i) understand the characteristics of elementary digital circuits and components;
(ii) be able to set up timing devices and circuits;
(iii) have an understanding of the advantages and areas of application of non contact instrumentation techniques.

Skills:
Facilitated - intellectual, practical, key.

Content:
Resonant circuits, Q, oscillators, quartz crystal oscillators. Elements of digital circuits, gates, truth tables, counters. Timing, switches and gates and their integration with digital counter circuits.
Laser range finding, laser , laser displacement gauges, profilometry. Doppler effect, velocity measurement by Doppler radar.
