Click here for further information Description: Aims:
This unit aims to develop students' academic English and study skills, building on the base established in EAP 1, to prepare them for study at HE level 1. It continues to prepare students for an International English Language Testing System test (IELTS), to be taken during the semester. NB taking the IELTS test will be an optional extra and will not form a part of the assessment for the EAP units.
Students will be taught and assessed in two separate strands, so that they can learn within a context specific to their own field (either Science or Business and Social Sciences).

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of the unit and building on their work in EAP 1, within their chosen field, students should be able to:
* deal effectively with the complete essay writing process;
* make judgements and comparisons based on a wide range of source material;
* organize relevant information clearly and coherently using specialist vocabulary when appropriate;
* produce longer clear and relevant written and oral assignments (a research project and a formal presentation) appropriate to purpose and situation;
* achieve an enhanced IELTS score in all four skills (where this option is taken).

Skills:
The unit continues to draw upon core aspects of key skills at level three and achieves an equivalent depth and standard in these aspects. The unit offers the further development of writing, speaking, listening, and reading skills in the academic context and continues to offer a strong focus on the development of language appropriate to the students' subject needs and the academic context.
